Starting with a new dentist can feel like a big step, especially if it's been a while since your last checkup. Our goal is to make your first visit relaxed, unhurried, and informative. Here's exactly what you can expect when you walk through our doors in Grapevine.
Before your appointment
Once you schedule, we'll text the new patient forms to your registered phone number so you can complete them whenever it's convenient. If you don't get to them beforehand, that's completely fine — you can fill them out in our office when you arrive.
It helps to bring:
- A valid photo ID
- Your dental insurance card, if you have one
- A list of any medications you take
- Any recent dental X-rays or records from your previous dentist
Your comprehensive exam
Your visit begins with a conversation. We'll ask about your health history, any concerns you have, and your goals for your smile. Then we'll carefully examine your teeth, gums, bite, and oral tissues — including an oral cancer screening.
If needed, we'll take digital X-rays to see what's happening beneath the surface, such as decay between teeth or changes in bone levels. Digital X-rays use significantly less radiation than traditional film and the images are ready right away.
Professional cleaning
Depending on your needs, our hygienist will remove plaque and tartar, polish your teeth, and share tips tailored to your at-home routine. If your gums need more focused care, we'll explain why and talk through the options before anything is done.
Your personalized plan
Before you leave, we'll walk you through what we found in plain language. If any treatment is recommended, you'll get clear explanations, your options, and transparent pricing — with no pressure to decide on the spot. Our team can also help you understand your insurance benefits.
Feeling nervous? Tell us.
Dental anxiety is incredibly common, and you never need to apologize for it. Let us know how you're feeling and we'll go at your pace, explain each step before we do it, and make sure you're comfortable throughout.
This article is for general educational purposes and isn't a substitute for a professional exam. If you have questions about your own oral health, please contact our office.
